Bakker and Glen defeat top team Beck Legal

THERE have been two giant upsets in Swan Hill Table Tennis A Grade.

Bakker and Glen smashed top team Beck Legal 6/2.

Paul Johnson started well, winning his two singles matches and was well supported by Steve Colombo and Damian “The General” Mangiameli.

Aaron Threadgold crumbled under high expectations and for the first time in his life, Max Carroll was speechless after putting in a sub-par performance.

Joe Pino tried hard for Beck Legal but couldn’t lift his teammates.

There was more bad news, with Lachlan’s Kunat Thunder losing to a Stefan Mangiameli inspired McKnight and Bray 6/3.

The winners took the important two doubles matches and with player of the year Santhosh Gunasekaran in sparkling form, the match was over fairly early.

Terry Martin and Frank Capone did their best but were a little outclassed.

B Grade was fairly straight forward – Swan Hill District Driver Education had a 6/4 win over a determined Swan Hill Chemicals.

Kevin “The Inspiration” Edwards, Rod Stevenson and Roberta Spicer all won two singles matches each.

They will go into Monday nights Grand Final as overwhelming favourites.

Kevin Burge and Dave Crooymans never gave up, winning the two doubles but this wasn’t enough to cause an upset.

Swan Hill Windscreens smashed a depleted Violi Finance 6/0.

Norman Campbell motivated his team before the night and Darryn Stevenson and Basil Spicer lifted their performance.

Violi Finance was missing star player Matt Brunner. Neil Caffrey and Tarin Tants played competitive table tennis but were hit off the court.

B Grade Grand Final will be played Monday night while the A Grade Grand Final will be played Wednesday night.

The breakup will be held at Murray Downs on Friday, September 13, 6pm.
