Table Tennis Notes

THERE is a gap beginning to open in the top four of the Swan Hill Table Tennis Association Sharp Fruit B Grade ladder.

PDF Accounting moved to third place with Chaz Tallboys and Brendan O’Brien dominating in their 7/4 win over a spirited Swan Hill Chemicals outfit, while it was also great to see Charlie Cunningham have his first victory of the year.

Advanced Packaging had a comfortable 8/3 win over an undermanned Swan Hill District Driver Ed team which was missing their star player Kevin Edwards, with Gayle and Neil Williams the best for the victors.

Pizza Kitchen welcomed back Roberta Spicer from her overseas trip and she won her three singles matches again to comfortably defeat a Joanne Stevenson led Murray Valley Technology Centre side 7/4.

An interesting side fact is that five players now have Shane Threadgold tattoos, such as the cult figure he has become.

The closest match of the night was a 6/5 win by GMG Accounting over Syd Wilson Auto Electrics.

In the battle of the Burge’s, it was Luke who defeated father Kevin in five tough sets, while Joe Pino Snr was the hero for the winners after claiming two singles matches and an important doubles win.

The Beck Legal A Grade pennant is at a most interesting stage, with Swan Hill Homes and Sheds John Threadgold having three easy wins.

Threadgold thought he had done enough to take the chocolates until Violi Finance’s Tayte Tants stole the show again, overcoming a shell-shocked Alan Thompson in four close sets.

Bakker and Glen kept their unbeaten record intact, defeating an unlucky R&J Joinery 6/5.

Paul Johnson had two important wins for the winners, while for the vanquished, Damien Mangiameli choked after being two sets to love up, while super sub Aaron Threadgold won two matches.

In the final match of the night, a Mario Mangiameli inspired Kunat Thunder defeated a rudderless Poole’s Accounting, 7/4, with Max Carroll and Micheal Shean in danger of being relegated next year if they don’t improve.
