Crews tackle blaze

FIREFIGHTERS were able to quickly contain a fire on a Woorinen North property before it spread in the direction of a house on Monday.

Brigades from Beverford, Nyah Nyah West, Swan Hill and Woorinen South were called to the Monash Drive property shortly before 2pm.

Woorinen South CFA Lieutenant Kevin Chaffey said the burn-off spread onto the roadside and into another property.

“The grass has dried out very quickly here,” he said.

“It was contained pretty quickly, we stayed out there for about an hour until it was all blackened out and stopped smoldering.

“The crews did an excellent job.”

He said a house about 50 metres away from the fire was spared.

“The paddock was green enough in the direction of the house, but it could have been much worse,” Lieutenant Chaffey said.

He warned property owners to register their burn-off and ensure water was nearby so fires could be controlled.
