Spread the spirit

SWAN Hill residents and businesses have been urged to get in the Christmas spirit and decorate a tree as part of an annual unique auction.

Now in its 25th year, the Swan Hill Neighbourhood House event sees more than 100 wire trees decorated with “anything and everything” and auctioned off to raise money for various community organisations.

Swan Hill Neighbourhood House co-ordinator Kate Bishop said there were plenty of small, medium and large trees still available for decorating.

“Some common items include toys, lollies and gift vouchers, but each year participants come up all sorts of things to put on their trees,” Ms Bishop said.

“One of the more unique things we’ve seen is local produce to showcase what we have here in the community.”

This year’s beneficiary, Beverford District Primary School, has also begun preparing for the event and collecting donations from the local community.

“Every year, the community gets very excited about it,” Ms Bishop said.

“I think it’s great to feature a local school, especially a small school, as it helps to promote them and helps them get involved in the local community.”

Trees will be on display at Stradbroke Hall from December 4 and will be auctioned off by local auctioneer Noel Watson on December 5.

For more information, or if you are interested in decorating a tree frame, contact the Swan Hill Neighbourhood House on 5032 1549 or Beverford District PS on 5037 6622.

Alternatively, drop into Swan Hill Neighbourhood House, 98-100 Gray Street, Swan Hill.
