Dimmeys final discount days

ICONIC discount store Dimmeys could be closing their doors for good in Swan Hill in April.

Last November, the retailer’s financial controller told The Guardian the Swan Hill store would close as it grappled with online shopping.

This followed an announcement on the 166-year-old retailer’s Facebook page that the company would be closing down.

A company spokesman told The Guardian this week the store was “99 per cent guaranteed” to close in April, when the store’s lease ends, “unless some miracle happens”.

“The closing process is happening, but in the background we’re looking at other options if there’s any possibility to save the business,” he said.

The company spokesman said Dimmeys was talking internally about options for their staff.

The Swan Hill store has three staff members.

“Whatever way is possible so that they have job continuity,” he said.

“We’re looking at a lot of options, but an agreement hasn’t been reached.”

The spokesman said the closures of the stores across the country would be “staggered”.

Dimmeys owns 31 stores nationwide, with two of those stores run by business owners with licences to trade under the Dimmeys name.
