Murray Downs power outage

AN unplanned five-and-a-half hour power outage affected Murray Downs residential estates last Friday morning.

Essential Energy restored power to 212 customers in Murray Downs following an unplanned outage early last Friday morning.

Acting operations manager Murray Glenn Costello said network protection equipment activated to isolate supply to the area around 4am after detecting a fault on the high voltage electricity network.

“Local crews were dispatched to fault find on the network before supply could begin to be restored and discovered a pelican had come into contact with overhead powerlines,” Mr Costello said.

“Crews worked as quickly as safety allowed and restored supply to all customer by 9.24am Friday morning.”

Mr Costello reminds the public to stay at least eight metres away from damaged or fallen powerlines.

“We encourage residents to immediately report fallen powerlines, network damage, fires or trees contacting powerlines to Essential Energy on 13 20 80 or call Triple-0 if the situation is life threatening,” he said.

Essential Energy encouraged customers to report a power outage on 13 20 80 or visit essentialenergy.com.au/outages for updates.
