Manangatang residents urged not to drink tap water

PEOPLE in Manangatang are being told to not drink tap water until further notice.

Rural water supplier GWMWater issued a statement on Tuesday night saying the precautionary action was the interests of protecting public health.

“This water is not suitable for drinking. While this do not drink tap water notice is in place, GWMWater is requesting customers not to use the current water supply for drinking, preparing beverages, washing and preparing food, preparing baby formula, brushing teeth or making ice. In this instance, boiling water will not remove contaminants,” it said.

“This advice has been issued in consultation with the Department of Health and Human Services after raw water inadvertently entered the clear water storages at Manangatang’s Water Treatment Plant.

“A drinking water trailer to fill up bottles and containers and limited bottled water will be available from outside the Manangatang Shop from 7pm.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and are we will keep customers informed as the situation changes.

“This measure is required to minimise risk to your health. If you are concerned that you may have been affected by contaminated water please seek medical advice. Advise your GP about this notice.”
