A POPULAR Nyah district Christmas carnival has become the latest victim of the coronavirus pandemic, with organisers pulling the pin on the event.
“After much thought and consideration, the committee has sadly made the decision to cancel this year’s carnival,” a post on Facebook read.
Reasons cited included the unavailability of several rides under the current regulations and “without them there is limited income to the event”.
“We have worked hard with Swan Hill Rural City Council to make this event work but cannot go ahead if we cannot make any income,” the committee said.
“Many thanks to local businesses, our stall holders, caterers, live music, event people and you, our community members.
“We have been overwhelmed with support for the carnival. We move on now and look at 2021 and hope it can be a bigger and better year.”
The announcement was met with disappointment from the community, after organisers spent hours lodging paperwork and ensuring the event could proceed.
