Last Thursday a Guardian staffer took the opportunity to have a quick lunch in the McCallum Street central recreation area near the recently installed parklets. Quietly having lunch, the staffer witnessed something quite bizarre. A Swan Hill visitor parked his car and walked to the photographed parking meter. He placed the required coins into the machine and the machine spilt out a mass of coins. He and all witnesses to the unique event were astounded. “It’s like there’s poker machines in the street” The unnamed visitor said. The baffled visitor then asked the Guardian staffer what he should do with his windfall of coins, to which the staffer said ‘pocket the money and run’.
