A Message from the Mayor Bill Moar
Community Vision and Council Plan
COUNCIL is entering an exciting time as we set out to create our ten year Community Vision as well as a four year Council Plan incorporating our Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan.
I encourage you all to get involved. We want to hear your aspirations and visions for our municipality, any challenges you face and what ideas you might have to overcome these.
Your feedback and ideas will create our Community Vision, guiding the Swan Hill Region into the future.
The new Council Plan 2021-2025 will also outline strategies to move towards the Community Vision creating a healthy, vibrant and prosperous community for everyone.
Please have your say and help shape our community into the future.
Support for DAMA
AT the July Council meeting Councillors resolved to undertake a preliminary feasibility study to establish a Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) in our region.
What is a DAMA you might ask? A DAMA is a formal agreement between the Australian Government and a regional, state or territory authority.
It provides access to more overseas workers than the standard skilled migration program.
DAMAs operate under an agreement-based framework, providing flexibility for regions to respond to their unique economic and labour market conditions.
I welcome the decision to further investigate a DAMA as an opportunity to address the skill shortages within our region and support the economic growth of our local agriculture and manufacturing industries.
Gazetted Roads
LOCAL framers, transport companies and the region’s economy is set to be boosted by the decision at the July Council meeting to gazette roads for A-double access.
Gazetting roads for PBS A-doubles will stream line current processes, negate the need for permits, improve the capacity and function of Council’s transport network, whilst supporting efficient and sustainable transport of products between producers and markets within the region.
This positive result supports our ever-growing horticulture industry and the establishment and expansion of new developments within the municipality, all of which place pressure on our existing road networks.
Not only will it benefit our horticulture industry, but also our wider community, by increasing vehicle load it is predicted to potentially decrease the number of vehicles on our roads.
Let’s Talk
COUNCIL’S new online engagement platform Let’s Talk has proved a great success with over 450 community contributions in the past month.
The Let’s Talk page creates an online option for more accessible, meaningful and authentic community participation.
I thank all those who have contributed to current consultations and encourage those who haven’t to log on and share your feedback.
Now open for engagement – we are currently seeking feedback on a number of items:
Community Vision and Council Plan
WE are creating a Community Vision and Council Plan – online consultation is now open.
This is a Community Vision, so we want to hear from you!
Now is the chance for ALL community members to have their say – and help shape our community for the future. Aspirations, visions, challenges and ideas – we want to hear it all.
Visit Let’s Talk to register for our online Zoom community workshops or complete the survey.
Robinvale Riverfront Master Plan
ONLINE only – The first stage of online consultation for the Robinvale Riverfront Master Plan is now open.
Council want to hear your vision and priorities for the redevelopment of the Robinvale riverfront precinct.
It is our aim to make the Robinvale Riverfront Precinct a space that our community love and visitors stop to admire.
Face-to-face workshops have been postponed and will be rescheduled once COVID restrictions have eased.Domestic Animal Management Plan
Council is preparing a new Domestic Animal Management Plan and is seeking feedback from local residents.
The feedback we receive will help to determine the way we manage domestic animals in our community over the next four years.
Members of the community are currently invited to complete an online survey – it’s a chance for residents to provide us with feedback on issues they may be experiencing in their neighbourhood and to outline the things that are important to them.
The survey will be available online until 5pm on today. To find out more about all three of these topics and to have your say, visit https://letstalk.swanhill.vic.gov.au/
