RESIDENTS looking to take steps towards ensuring their safety and preparing for natural disasters can gain valuable skills at a series of workshops.
They will run in Tooleybuc, Moulamein, Mallan, Caldwell, Cobramunga, and Wakool from Friday, March 22.
The workshops will be about safeguarding the community against fires, floods, and storms.
Australian Red Cross, Rural Fire Service, Local Land Services and Western Murray Land Improvement Group will be sharing their expertise at the seminars.
The seminars are part of the People Led Prevention Project by Landcare New South Wales, which is the peak body for community land carers in NSW.
Landcare NSW chief executive Dr Turlough Guerin said the grassroots efforts and community-led initiatives are important in ensuring disaster preparedness.
“It’s crucial to highlight the indispensable role played by our communities in mitigating state and national-level crises,” Dr. Guerin said.
“Landcare NSW argues that further investment in disaster preparedness through the lens of nature-based solutions, delivered by local communities, is a compelling investment of taxpayer dollars, but also insurance against the most extreme effects of natural disasters in NSW and Australia.”
The Tooleybuc workshop is on March 27 from 9am-3pm.
