TOOLEYBUC Central School opened its doors to possibility and potential last month as students participated in the school’s Career Expo, an engaging highlight of Careers Week.
The event brought together a diverse range of industries, professionals, and support services, offering students from Foundation to Year 12 a first-hand look into the working world.
With representatives from healthcare, law, finance, agriculture, early childhood education, and more, students had the chance to explore future career pathways and gain valuable insight into the opportunities available across the region.
Principal Melanie Wait said the event was a meaningful and enriching experience for all involved.
“It was a great opportunity to help students start planning for their future careers,” Ms Wait said.
“We encouraged students to engage with the theme by dressing as their dream job, and they embraced it with enthusiasm.”
Organisations such as Swan Hill District Hospital (Allied Health and Nursing), Eastern Bridge Lawyers, GMG Accountancy, Growers Services (Diesel Mechanics), Tooleybuc Preschool, and Australian Farming Services were among the key exhibitors.
They shared practical knowledge, career journeys, and educational pathways with the students in an approachable and informative setting.
Additional support came from community organisations including CUC Mallee, Axis Employment, the Mallee Murray Local Learning and Employment Network (MMLLEN), and Murray ACE, all of which play an important role in supporting youth employment and career education in the region.
Following Careers week, the school participated in a celebration of Reconciliation Week, as they gathered to read Listen, a poignant picture book by Duncan Smith and Nicole Goodwin.
The shared reading offered students an opportunity to reflect on the voices and stories central to reconciliation, strengthening cultural awareness and mutual respect within the school.
As part of their ongoing commitment to cultural learning, students also revisited a special Acknowledgment of Country co-written last year with Aunty Marilyn.
This moment of reflection reinforced the school’s dedication to fostering respect, connection, and understanding within its diverse community.
Adding to the positive momentum, the school has also been upgrading its learning spaces with new furniture.
The Year 5/6 classroom received new bookcases and cupboards creating an inviting and functional space for learning.
Meanwhile, the Year 3/4 classroom continues to take shape as new furniture arrives, helping to create a calm and welcoming environment where students can thrive.
