Swan Hill visits get families away from the cold

FAMILIES are visiting the Swan Hill this school holidays to “escape the cold”.

Warrnambool family Erin McCorkell, with Olivia, Finlee, Brendan and Isabella Moore, spent the second week of the school holidays in Swan Hill.

Brendan told The Guardian with the New South Wales border closed, the family chose the warmest place they could go without the children being too far from home.

“We’re treating the trip as a family holiday,” he said.

“We’re staying at the BIG4 Swan Hill, so it’s been great to use the pool and splash park, and have some family time.”

This is the first time the family have visited Swan Hill,

“It’s been lovely to have some warmth and get out during the day,” Ms McCorkell said.

Ballarat couple John and Jo Macdonald were also escaping the cold.

They are spending six weeks in Swan Hill, which included three weeks of lockdown.

A highlight of the trip for Mr Macdonald was catching a 66cm fish on his 66th birthday on September 19.

“I caught a fish, which I was very happy about as I don’t catch many,” he said.

The couple have enjoyed the greenery of Swan Hill, played bowls at Swan Hill Bowls Club, travelled along the Murray River on the PS Pyap, visited Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement and made multiple trips into the Swan Hill CBD.

“We would go to NSW if we could,” they said.

The couple has enjoyed was the camaraderie between travellers.

“There are two other groups here staying as long as we are,” they said.
