Promising start for tourism trainees

IT MIGHT seem like tough times for tourism and TAFEs, but
nevertheless, Swan Hill is producing its first ever local cohort of Certificate
III Tourism students.

While State Government funding cuts to TAFE hit hard in
SuniTAFE’s hospitality area, 15 students are now studying a range of
hospitality-related subjects thanks to sponsorship from a local job
agency.

Through 16 weeks of tuition the young learners, mostly school leavers
and Indigenous youth, will pick up skills in customer service food, alcohol,
first aid and brewing coffee, among others.
