Woorinen’s premiership era ends

WOORINEN proved to be the hard luck story of the summer, dropping out of the finals race at the final hurdle — a big final hurdle set by Nyah District.

The equation was simple: win and play finals, yet the task was always going to be a tough one after Nyah set a target of 319 for the four-time champions.

Woorinen started promisingly but things started to go awry when Dean Morpeth was dismissed early leaving the home side on 1/46.

Then fellow opener Dilbag Singh was dismissed without adding to the team total, sparking a total collapse from which Woorinen never recovered.

Luke Crow, Glenn Violi, Luke Benham and Jamie Crabbe were all back in the shed with the score having advanced only to 62.

Guri Singh provided some resistance, adding 27 to get the total close to 100, but it was too little too late.

Woorinen’s season — and an incredible era of four consecutive A grade flags — had come to an end.

All other matches ended with outright victories, with Swan Hill beating Ultima TUF, Tooleybuc Manangatang downing Lakers and RSL getting up over St Mary’s Tyntynder.

For the other match reviews, see Monday’s edition of The Guardian (March 11, 2013).
