Cinema on cards

SWAN HILL could have a permanent cinema complex as early as December.

Plans for the complex are officially underway and it is scheduled to open by
Christmas, pending planning permission.

Twilight Cinemas director Andrew
Taylor confirmed he has submitted documents to the Swan Hill Rural City Council
asking for planning permission.

The location of the complex is yet to be
confirmed, but Mr Taylor said it would most likely be constructed within an
existing building and retrofitted to become a “boutique cinema”.

The complex
will feature three cinema screens, including the most recent high-definition
equipment, third generation DCI digital projectors and Dolby 7.1 digital
sound.

“It has certainly been a long journey from our first screening five
years ago outdoors at Riverside Park,” Mr Taylor said.

“We are keen as
mustard to get going as soon as possible.”

Mr Taylor said he was optimistic
about the Council’s response to his approval.

“We are in active discussions
with Council’s planning department at the moment and there is a very tight
timeline on the project as we are keen to open in time for Christmas, which we
are confident can be achieved barring any significant planning delays,” he
said.

“We have a great working relationship with the Council who have been
really supportive and this development will see us progress to a full cinema
operation as opposed to only select screenings currently available in the Town
Hall operation.”
