STARTING school can be quite a daunting process for young children.
Some
settle in easily and quickly, while others struggle a bit and take a bit more
time.
Swan Hill Rural City Council’s children’s advocate Leah Farrow believes
it should be no rush and advised schools and families to listen to one another
to make the transition as easy as possible and to assist the child throughout
this stage.
“Kids are going to be at school for a long time. There is so much
research that has been done that shows if a child has a successful transition,
it will set them up for a successful time at school,” she said.
Ms Farrow
explained the whole process of transition can be “long-lasting” and doesn’t
occur “overnight”, with some children not feeling settled until the end of
Prep.
