THE ladies from Murray Downs Bowls Club won back-to-back midweek pennant regional finals last week at Swan Hill Racecourse.

They played a competition comprising of three games of 15 ends against the other division winners of the Murray Mallee Region, which incorporates clubs from the Sunraysia, Tyrrell, Northern District, and Murray Valley associations.

They beat Woomelang and Kerang before going down to Mildura Workers, who were the outright favourites after the second game.

The day ended closer than expected with three clubs on four points. 

Murray Downs were declared the winners on a countback of net shots up.

Murray Downs bowler Shirley Deola said it was thrilling to win the title in such a close finish.

“It was an exciting day and very close,” she said.

Murray Downs will now represent the region at the state championships at Barham.

Results: Murray Downs Bowls Club — four points and 39 net shots up;

Woomelang Bowls Club — four points and 20 net shots up;

Mildura Workers — four points and nine net shots up.
