Dogs sneak home

IN A game that was played in two halves it was Tyntynder who snuck home over a dogged Balranald outfit by just one straight kick.

The victors ran out the game on fitter legs and a larger spread of experienced players contributing when the game needed to be won.

The Roos jumped out of the blocks full of running and while they conceded early scores to the home side they were too slick with their ball movement and had too many winners in too many positions for the lacklustre Dogs who found it difficult to find the footy.

Recently returned stars Dane Fitzgerald, Damien Russo, Luke Giansiracusa and Josh Giansiracusa were up and about in this the early term, while youngsters Raven Jolliffe and Ryan Middlebrook were applying enormous pressure to the Dogs defensive set up.

It paid dividends as the visitors went to the first break holding a handy 25 point lead.

The heat went off the contest after the first change and the match became a heavy tackling affair with players from both camps were putting their bodies on the line.

The Dogs had a powerful contributor in David Andrivon who was lending his ample bulk and strength around the packs and along with Mark Corrie was showing leadership for his younger charges.

Goals were getting easier for the home side as the evergreen Brad Carroll was presenting at every opportunity, creating headaches for the Roos defence and the Dogs were starting to make inroads into the deficit and the game as a contest was far from over.

The Dogs trailed by 24 at the long break and while they looked unable to bridge the gap the stalwarts were still plumping for their beloved Bulldogs refusing to admit defeat.

The third term was more pressure from the Dogs as the influence of Fitzgerald and Russo was starting to diminish.

Josh Cheek had been a busy in and under operator for the Bulldogs for most of the day and in the third term he was starting to outrun the Balranald midfielders and become a massive influence for the home side.

Cheek seemed to be everywhere, creating havoc for the Roos as the game turned around and Andrivon was still as strong and influential as he had been at the first ball up.

Fans of both sides were a little nonplussed as the siren signalled the end of the third term with the scoreboard favouring the visitors by only three points.

Tyntynder had resurrected their game and were showing real spirit and going to the break looked a little less fatigued than their opponents.

Into the final term the Bulldogs were tired but the Roos were almost exhausted, their stars of the first and second term were out on their feet while their youngsters were still competing but the results weren’t eventuating in their favour and the Bulldogs had a handful of contributors in Andrivon, Jake Matthews, Marcus Wattie, Ryal Yak and of course the irrepressible Cheek who was equally busy in every quarter.
