Looking to build on form

NYAH Nyah West United will be looking to turn around the form that saw it downed by 78 points against Swan Hill a fortnight ago.

United travels to Woorinen to take on a side that is also looking to reverse losing form after the Tigers went down to Cohuna in Round 5.

After sustaining a broken nose against the Swans, the Demons’ Corey Daniels will remain sidelined, while a couple of others will undergo fitness tests ahead of the game.

Coach Jarrod Skinner will play after missing interleague due to a calf concern after the Swan Hill game.

Skinner said he expected a “slug out” in likely wet weather.

“We need to work well together and keep those gradual improvements that have been happening over the season coming,” he said.

Skinner said the Demons had let themselves down with a poor performance in the second half against Nyah Nyah West.

“The second half let us down, we just weren’t tall enough to go with them all day,” he said.

“Call [Beasy] was too dominant in the ruck and Hughie [Foott] and Toby [Thoolen] got their hands on the footy too easily down in the forward 50.”

“Our legs tightened up a bit in the second half and the pressure wasn’t there after halftime.”

Skinner said the Demons would put their best defender on in-form Tiger forward Jamie Nicholas tomorrow, while former Tiger coach Aaron Cadd would be watched closely — particularly at stoppages.

“[Cadd] is a ball winner and sets their play up — he’ll get monitored by his opponent,” he said.

“When you go to a contest you have to be aware of where he is and if you’re not in possession of the ball you have to know what he’s doing. It’s a learning curve for anyone who gets to play on someone of that ability.”

Both sides will be hoping to improve as they get more games under their belts in to the middle part of the season.

TIP: Woorinen by 23 points.
