Representing fun

BALRANALD’S Drew Lloyd and Nicholas Hodgson participated in the Primary School State Sports Association’s AFL carnival last week.

After trying out through their schools, the boys travelled to Sydney’s Macquarie Park where Drew represented the state schools’ Riverina region and Nicholas the Catholic system’s Polding area.

Gavin Lloyd said the boys had enjoyed the experience, although the sheer scale had been somewhat daunting.

“I think for country boys sometimes they don’t necessarily enjoy having so many people around,” he said.

“But I think it was the experience of meeting new people that’s really what it is all about. Both kids came away with new friends.”

Nicholas will return to Sydney for the national carnival at the end of July.

Meanwhile, Swan Hill Primary School students Henry Thompson, Isaiah Bull and Brodie Tonkin all took part in the Victorian primary schools’ equivalent carnival in Melbourne.

Henry has been selected for the squad of 40 from which a Vic Country team will take on a Vic Metro team.
