TWO ill-equipped and illegal pig hunters were forced to drink out of puddles after becoming lost in Yanga National Park last week.
On August 17, police received an emergency call from two stranded Victorian men who were forced to spend the night in the national park, near Balranald, after getting lost on a hunting trip.
The pair are believed to have travelled by boat from Redbank Weir on the Murrumbidgee River before getting out about 1km downstream in the national park.
Armed with compound bows, they ventured into the bush in search of feral pigs and quickly became lost.
Authorities estimated the men walked around in circles for about 15km — without food, water or warm clothing — as they attempted to find their way out of the forest. They spent the night in the open before dialling for emergency assistance.
They were found more than 24 hours after they had set off the day before, at a location about 2km inland from the Murrumbidgee River.
The men were questioned by police and released, but were hit with hefty fines.
