Contest heats up

SCRAPING through by a hair’s breadth to take out Saturday’s qualifying finals, Woorinen will go on to meet competition rivals Swan Hill in the second semi-final this week.

In what was a crushing defeat for Tooleybuc Manangatang, Woorinen was behind by just a few goals at quarter time. Coach Naomi Lewis scrambled to rearrange her players in the break to reverse the Saints’ advantage.

By half-time, the Tigers, who have dominated most of the season, where ahead by a meagre three goals and struggling to blaze a trail.

It was a hotly contested game and no one was giving up without a fight.

For more on Woorinen’s nail-biting win over the Saints, see Monday’s edition of The Guardian (September 1, 2014).
