NATIONALS candidate Peter Walsh has insisted his party will “build the bloody thing” in response to questioning over the Coalition’s $96m Echuca Moama bridge announcement.
After several decades of lobbying, Echuca Moama became a significant step closer to a second Murray River crossing this week.
Meanwhile, Swan Hill’s bridge remains stalled, with parties unable to come to aggreement.
The $96m of funding will go towards the construction of the river crossing upstream of the existing bridge, which was built in 1878.
However, the outcome of the election may change things, as might ability to reach an agreement with the Federal and New South Wales governments.
To go forward, they must contribute $100 million and $60 million respectively, taking the total pool to $256 million.
Both are yet to commit these funds.
