A 35-YEAR-OLD Swan Hill man who claimed he turned to trafficking ice and cannabis to get his family out of poverty will appeal a one year jail sentence handed down this week.
Brett Bower was convicted of 24 charges in the Swan Hill Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, including trafficking, possession and use of methamphetamine and cannabis.
The court heard on two occasions this year, police busted Bower driving around Swan Hill with drugs, weapons and cash — in one instance $29,000 — in his car.
Police prosecutor Dave Hogan said the first time on September 20, Bower and a co-accused were found with 16.2 grams of ice, 30g of cannabis and $5600 cash when police stopped them on Karinie Street.
A taser, hammer and radar detector were also seized.
