RESTRICTIONS are helping households in the Swan Hill area reduce water consumption — but it appears not everyone is following the rules.
A statewide water industry performance report last month found Lower Murray Water (LMW) customers saw the second largest percentage decrease in average household water consumption in the state.
The report, conducted by the Essential Services Commission (ESC), found that LMW customers used six per cent less water between 2013 and 2014 than they did in the previous two years.
Owen Russell, LMW General Manager of Customer Services, said customers had become more water-efficient because of a combination of the company’s permanent water savings restrictions and seasonal factors.
However, despite the decrease in average household consumption, LMW customers continued to be the highest water users in the state, which Mr Russell attributed to being in the driest area in Victoria.
