Festival ferals

A “REVOLTING” mess left behind at a Labour Day bush rave at Wooroonook Lake near Charlton, has now been cleaned up.

Disgruntled organisers of the annual Maitreya Festival posted a video to YouTube earlier this week as they set about the massive task of cleaning up after a reported 7000-strong crowd.

At the close of the four-day festival, which ironically promoted “leave no trace” as its environmental policy, couches, masks, rubbish and inflatable water equipment littered the ground at the usually idyllic setting.

The video, which has now been viewed almost 50,000 times, was posted to the event’s Facebook page urging attendees to take responsibility for their mess.

“Patrons got a lot to learn,” organisers wrote, “take some responsibility.”

“We hope to be able to be back to you with a positive follow up video from the campsites in the next few days, we can’t post the goodness till we clean up your crap.”

In the Charlton community, the Charlton Forum were involved in organising the festival and president Alan Getley said it had not been a surprise to find a mess after a large four-day festival.

“The simple fact is, it is an over-reaction,” he said.

“It might look big on paper… but when you look at it today, it is like the festival was never there.
