SWAN Hill will lose 50 years of experience in electrical motor rewinding as locals Luarie and Patricia Scott hang up their tools for the last time.
With their business and site up for sale the Scotts have decided it’s time to see more of their grandchildren and become grey nomads.
Having followed in his father’s footsteps into the trade, Mr Scott said he was sad to be leaving the business.
“It’s harder getting out of business than getting into one,” he said.
Mrs Scott said it was heartbreaking.
“All our clients are like friends,” she said.
After working for Syd Wilson for 11 and a half years after school and gaining his apprenticeship Laurie was able to open his own business in 1976.
Since then he and wife Patricia have had many highlights throughout their years of raising a family while running a business.
“We’re blessed being able to work together as husband and wife — and we still talk to each other,” Mrs Scott said.
She reflected on how Laurie would often work late, but make sure he was home for family dinner, only to have to return to the shed to finish up.
They remember all eight apprentices they’ve had over the years, and say moving into their own purpose built shed was a memorable moment.
