Saints defence keeps Kangas at bay

THIS season of the Central Murray Football Netball League A Grade competition is shaping up to be an interesting one.

Second on the ladder, Tooleybuc Manangatang, had a tough game against Cohuna on Saturday.

Tooleybuc Manangatang coach Mel Henson said it was a good win, but a hard game.

“They were tough — they were hard at the ball and they put up a good fight,” she said.

Henson said the success of the game was due mainly to their strong defence.

“Defence worked well together. They made it difficult for [Cohuna] to score and took lots of intercepts,” she said.

The combination of Leonie Kentish in goal keeper, Julie Wardle in goal defence and Monica Austerberry in wing defence helped hold back Cohuna’s attacking side and prevented the opposition from scoring.

Henson said Zoe Fuller was also very strong inside the goal circle.

She said it was a good start to the season so far, but that the team still has lots of things they can work on.

“We’ve got potential if we continue to work hard,” she said.

Henson said they’ve got a tough few weeks ahead coming up against a strong Nyah Nyah West side after a bye next week, and then Swan Hill the week after.

“It will be a good test to see where we’re at,” she said.
