A shooting star

MAX Sammon is a shooting star on the rise. Just 14 months after taking up clay target shooting, Sammon excelled at the National Skeet Shooting Championships in Wagga Wagga last week earning a berth in the national junior team.

The Swan Hill College Year 8 student shot his first ever 25/25 on Sunday, May 16, helping his side defeat a more experienced team from Queensland by two shots.

Last Wednesday he shot 45/50 to qualify for the overall handicap event. He managed another 12 targets in the sudden-death shoot off and finished 21st.

Thursday was the Commonwealth Skeet Title where Sammon shot the first 75 targets without a miss and finished the day on 98/100.

The results saw him win B Grade outright, finishing equal 12th overall from 162 of the best skeet shooters from Australia and New Zealand and receiving his first 50 break and 75 break badges.

Sammon qualified second for the Australian junior team with a score of 143/150.

The Swan Hill Clay Target Club shooter’s next major carnival is the NSW State Championships also held in August.
