WHILE most other kids his age watch YouTube videos after school, St Mary Mackillop student Mitchell Barkman makes them.
His video ‘The Easter Story in Lego’, which he filmed, edited and produced himself, has been watched more than 100,000 times — the equivalent of each Swan Hill local watching the eight minute video 100 times over.
Mitchell’s fledgling movie career began through his Swan Hill church, the Grainshed.
Making short news videos for Sunday morning services, Mitchell quickly fell in love with the film making process.
“I’ve always had an interest in computers but the last few years I’ve really got into film. I enjoy that. I love just editing videos on a computer using programs,” he said.
Now the Year 11 student boasts a set up worthy of any professional film crew; video equipment, professional lighting, the latest editing software, Mitchell even a green screen that allows him to do special effects.
But the latest addition to this cinematic lineup is his favourite — a DJI Phantom 2 Quadcopter.
