Truck driver ploughs into power pole

POWER was lost to more than 500 Powercor customers in the Swan Hill region after a truck collided with a power pole on the corner of Gray Street and Stradbroke Avenue yesterday.

Powercor revealed the power shortage affected 523 of its customers between Chillingollah and Nyah West to the north and Meatian and Kunat to the south from around 10.20am onwards on Thursday morning.

Power hadn’t returned by the time of publication, with Powercor estimating the return time to be 8pm.

Traffic was closed to motorists on Gray Street and Stradbroke Avenue near the incident, as Powercor workers tried to repair the damage to the power pole.

Swan Hill police said the truck driver left the scene of the incident, though a bystander managed to take a photo to identify it.

Police are now asking for anyone with information on the owner of a white prime mover with a distinctive red stripe and a yellow flat trailer.
