Loose change helps hospice fund clear one-third mark

THE coin trail leading towards building a hospice in Swan Hill has shortened, thanks to a charity event held at St Mary’s Primary School last week.

The primary school’s students raised $2100 on Friday through a casual dress day and a coin trail, where they lay down coins they had been collecting over the prior month.

The students’ efforts helped take the hospice fund’s total to $38,791, now closing in on the halfway mark to the hospice committee’s target of $100,000.

Students also dressed up in green, the favourite colour of the late Peter Hoare — father of Year 6 student John Hoare — in whose honour the hospice effort has been run.

Hospice committee member Gaynor Hayward was at the school on the day and she said it was fantastic how well the kids had engaged with and understood the meaning behind the hospice.

“It was really good and it was just amazing how a lot of the children exactly knew what a hospice was and why they were raising money,” Ms Hayward said.

On top of this, Woorinen South Pre School raised $115 from its Big Morning Tea, while Bigger Better Beverford has planned to hold a “Big Afternoon Tea” for the cause this Sunday.
