DESPITE delays, owners of Swan Hill’s newest childcare centre are hoping to welcome the public through the doors in the coming month.
It has been three years since Scott and Marg Hartshorn purchased the Yana Street property they hoped would help them to realise their dream of owning a childcare centre.
For two years they battled through the planning approvals process, following concerns from neighbouring residents of the impact the Young Adventurers Early Childhood Education Services centre would have on the surrounding area.
Given the green light to begin development late last year, they recently began renovation of the established home and were expected to finally open the doors to the public two weeks ago.
However, delays with the installation of floor coverings, subsequently delaying final approval by the council and State Governement, has pushed the opening back at least another three weeks.
“According to the department, we might get one or two new centres a year in our region — that is from Sunbury to Mildura — in Melbourne, they could get 100 a year,” Ms Hartshorn said.
