Ricky offers support to Woorinen

SOON after learning of Friday’s devastating fire at Woorinen, ex-AFL player manager Ricky Nixon stepped in to offer his wholehearted support to the reeling club. Speaking to The Guardian, the notorious footy personality said his heart went out to the Tigers.

“I do feel for them,” Nixon said.

“Losing your history and everything attached to it is devastating.”

Nixon shared information about the fire with his 13,000 Facebook followers on Friday, auctioning off a signed Gary Ablett picture and a Richmond team jumper with 100 percent of the $1750 total profits going towards the WFNC rebuilding fund, as well as offering to come and speak to the Tigers after the footy season wrapped up.

Nixon told The Guardian that he felt an obligation to help out.

“People might say why are you doing this?” he said.

“Four years ago I went through hell and back and the football community stuck by me.

“I want to give something back.”

Nixon, who is currently pursuing a new venture in country and suburban football recruiting called myFootyAgent, said professional football was losing its way.

“People are turning away from the AFL in droves,” he said.

“It’s not football it’s an athletic event.

“Country football is pure football. I haven’t been to one AFL game this year, I’d rather go and watch Woorinen play.”
