Tracking a good range

THE Swan Hill racetrack is likely to be in a good range by Monday, as course management prepares for the final of the stayers’ section of the Betfair Murray Mallee Winter Series.

If the weather holds over the weekend — the forecast warns only of a possible shower on Monday — the official track rating is likely to be upgraded to a Good 4.

Track manager Josh Woolhouse said the recent precipitation had been ideal, as Murray Mallee Racing prepares for the stayers’ final and Heat 9 of the equivalent sprinters’ event.

“We got 13mm which was perfect. It’s a 100 percent even coverage — there’s nothing better than rainfall,” Woolhouse said.

Woolhouse has also adjusted the rail with assistance of Mildura track manager Murray James, whose role also involves work at other venues across the region.

“Murray and I have moved the rail out about four metres to protect the bend,” Woolhouse said yesterday afternoon.

“There’s been significant pressure on the bend with the June racing carnival and other meets, so this gets them off the bend and on to fresh ground.”
