Wind fails to deter crowds at field days

DESPITE a cold and blustery start, the 2015 Mallee Machinery Field Days was a resounding success, according to organisers.

Thousands of people from across north-west Victoria flocked to the tiny town of Speed on both Wednesday and Thursday to be enamored by $100 million worth of machinery on display.

With everything on offer from snags in bread and gourmet pies and pasties, to ice cream and smallgoods, the crowd was well fed too.

Well-known Mallee agronomist Dale Grey opened the event and to a crowd of farmers and weather nerds alike lamented that El Nino was in full swing on the day.

Andrew McLean, secretary for the field days committee, was pleased with the turnout.

“It appears that we’re pretty good. Well on track,” he said.

“We’ve hit a hitch here and there, but we’ve sorted it out. Apart from that everything’s going smoothly.”

His only complaint was the weather.
