Hospice fund reaches $97k

THERE are plans to continue raising funds to bring a hospice to Swan Hill once it reaches its initial $100,000 target, as the money from last month’s goods and services auction has officially been banked.

The official count of the proceeds raised from the Swan Hill Freemasons’ auction is $35,000, helping bring the hospice fund to a current total of $96,868.

Swan Hill Committee secretary Loretta Belton was chuffed with the auction’s result, saying it was the biggest singular fundraiser to date — an especially difficult achievement given the generosity shown to the hospice effort so far.

“It’s beyond the expectation of what we thought would’ve come through the auction,” Ms Belton said.

Freemasons’ Cameron Smits said it was a huge community effort, for which everyone should give themselves a pat on the back.
