Blossom fest draws record crowd

SUNDAY dawned hot and sunny, the perfect setting for the Mallee Almond Blossom Festival, which saw a record 5000-strong crowd descend on Robinvale Golf Club.

Punters celebrated the onset of the almond blossom season by sampling the local produce, as well as the stellar entertainment lineup.

Melbourne’s Arnie stole the show at the main stage — regaling crowds with an uncanny Elvis impersonation, and an even better Tina Turner — while kids were kept on their toes by wacky Sydney duo The Bongo Brothers.

The highlight for many was visiting nearby Margooya Orchard in full bloom, with tour guide Brian Slater providing plenty of industry expertise.

Festival committee secretary Sharron Jury said the day went off without a hitch.

“We were rapt — the weather was perfect and there were heaps of people,” she said.

And Ms Jury is dreaming big — telling The Guardian she’d like the 2016 Mallee Almond Blossom Festival to feature joy-flights over the almond orchards.
