Colour me happy

NO longer relegated to the children’s section, colouring-in books for grown ups are experiencing a surge in popularity as the world, and Swan Hill, goes cuckoo for colouring.

Beardsley’s Swan Hill Newsagency stocks six different brands of adult colouring books, sporting names like Blissful Botanicals, Magical City and Zen Colouring and promising to provide relaxation and escape from everyday life.

Beardsley’s Linda Gaylard says the books, which sit proudly behind the front counter, are proving immensely popular, particularly among local women.

“They’re also buying them for their teenage children,” Ms Gaylard said.

“There are some really beautiful designs.

“We’ve tried to source as many different books as possible.”

The current number one bestseller on the Penguin Books Australia chart is a colouring book for adults and half the titles on the Angus and Robertson’s bestselling list are adult colouring-in books.

But according to Ms Gaylard, the hype is warranted.

“It’s very good for therapy,” she explained.

“People can concentrate without feeling like they are failing.”
