Boxing club to host charity day this Sunday

SWAN Hill Boxing Club will host a fundraising day from 10.30am on Sunday, with eight bouts planned for the event.

Boxers and footballers from across the region will fight to raise money for Chances for Children. Seven mostly light-hearted bouts will take place, with a couple of tag teams to take to the ring.

Victorian champ Darcy Charnock will hop into the ring with fellow local, Absolute MMA fighter Scott Fletcher in the headline bout, while Lake Boga’s Matt Gadsden and Woomelang Lascelles’ Jayden Lonergan will fight, as will local boxers Tom Mitchell and Mick McKenzie.

“Everything we raise, we put back into the community or a worthy cause,” boxing club member Matt Phelan said.

“All our trainers do it for the love of the sport,” he said.

“A few of the local footy boys come into the gym for a bit of extra fitness work, it’ll be good to have them go in and have a crack.

“We’ve got boxers that are coming up and want to have a fight as well.”

The Swan Hill Lions Club will also run a sausage sizzle outside the boxing club at the back of the Swan Hill Rec Reserve.

Last year’s event saw about 280 people head down to watch the charity fights.
