Focusing on the future of Murray River communities

A COHORT of prominent local, state and federal leaders converged on the Swan Hill Town Hall on Friday to discuss their thoughts on the long term future of the Murray region.

Victorian Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development Jaala Pulford, and Nationals Senator for Victoria Bridget McKenzie were in attendance at the Murray River Group of Councils’ 2015 conference, as were more than 100 councillors and community members from Swan Hill, Mildura, Gannawarra, Loddon, Campaspe and Moira.

Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh and Federal Member for Mallee Andrew Broad made an appearance, and even the ABC tagged along, with radio presenter Fiona Parker running an open broadcast from 8.30 to 11am.

Guest speakers, including Ms Pulford, Ms McKenzie and futurist Dr Peter Ellyard, outlined their opinion on the best ways for regional Victorian towns towns like Swan Hill to prosper.
