Ball rolling on dog park

DOG owner Cameron Langley is pushing for a dedicated dog park to be established within Swan Hill.

He knows only too well the difficulties associated with ensuring his beloved German Shorthaired Pointers, both rescue dogs, get their daily dose of exercise.

His plan to initiate Swan Hill’s very first off-leash dog park is gaining momentum, with a groundswell of community support for the idea.

Mr Langley told The Guardian it was difficult to exercise dogs adequately in Swan Hill, particularly larger breeds, and said an off-leash dog park would provide a safe place to do so.

“I went to Ballarat [off- leash park] the other day and taking the dogs there it was fantastic, just letting them roam and socialise with other dogs,” he said.

“You haven’t got dogs roaming in spaces like playgrounds so it does make the community safer in general.

“It centralises the dogs and keeps it cleaner as well because you haven’t got dog muck on the ground.”

Mr Langley is pushing for a three acre area to be allocated to establish an off-leash dog park, and is turning to Swan Hill Rural City Council for financial support.
