POOR road conditions have been attributed to a recent spate of pedestrian falls in Curlewis Street, according to a newly formed Facebook group.
The Safer Roads for Swan Hill Facebook page was started by concerned Swan Hill resident Robyn Sykes, following another recent fall.
The area of concern relates to a designated crossing area on Curlewis Street, situated between the RSL Club and train station.
Ms Sykes is employed at the RSL Club which overlooks this section of road.
She said she was aware of five serious falls in the past 12 months, noting the main issue related to an area of road which had buckled.
“The falls that I’ve been aware of are quite serious,” Ms Sykes said.
“They have involved broken bones, cuts and bruising and have smashed [optical] glasses.”
According to Ms Sykes, the latest incident occurred last Thursday, when a senior lady tripped at the site.
Ms Sykes said her wounds were significant, including cuts to her face and hands.
“This is the third incident that I have attended, out of the five I’m aware of,” Ms Sykes said.
“I contacted Council about the issue and was told that this was a VicRoads issue.
“I have seen that VicRoads attended and have done some temporary work but this is not a long-term solution.”
