Hay that looks great

A GROUP of women from Woorinen South are dusting off their wedding dresses and holding a unique event to do their bit for Queensland drought relief.

The Brides, Bridesmaid, Debs and Suits Charity Fundraising Ball has been dreamed up by Woorinen South woman Colleen Crossfield, who says she finds the current situation “heartbreaking”.

Along with long-time friend Margy Devereux, Colleen hopes the event, on April 2, will raise much-needed funds to buy hay for starving Queensland cattle.

More than 80 per cent of Queensland is drought declared and in early January an entourage of entrepreneurial truck drivers drove hay bales from Darlington Point, New South Wales all the way up to Ilfracombe, Queensland.

They’ve become known as the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners and have scheduled another hay run for the end of next month, with two local truckies — Swan Hill’s Rob Conlan and Moulamein’s Mathew Russ — lending their trucks and driving skills to the cause.
