ANOTHER serious accident on the roads around Robinvale has raised the fatality count for the region to two in three weeks.
The latest accident claimed the life of a 54-year-old Euston man.
It comes only a week after a two-car collision in Robinvale saw six people taken to hospital and another fatal accident the week before.
The most recent incident was a head-on collision at around midday on Wednesday when the man, driving a Holden Rodeo, and a 24-year-old Mildura man, driving a Ford Fairmont, collided on a wide stretch of the Sturt Highway at the Robinvale turn-off.
Both vehicles sustained severe damage and the road was closed for a number of hours while police investigated.
Witnesses conducted CPR on the driver of the Rodeo before police and paramedics arrived; the man could not be revived.
The driver of the Fairmont was taken to Mildura Hospital in a stable condition and Deniliquin Local Area Command confirmed yesterday that he has since been released.
Deniliquin Detective Sergeant Miles Rogers said police were preparing a brief of evidence for the coroner in regards to the fatal crash.
“Deniliquin detectives and Broken Hill forensic group services examined the scene and are conducting further enquiries,” Det Sgt Miles Rogers said.
Any witnesses are asked to contact Deniliquin LAC on 5881 9499 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
