A PROJECT which saw 1320 lights in the Swan Hill upgraded to LED last year will help make significant savings to ratepayers’ hip pockets and carbon footprint, a council report has claimed.
The Lighting the Regions initiative will help reduce the municipality’s carbon dioxide emissions by 10,800 tonnes over 20 years and save it up to $64,000 a year in energy costs according to the report, which was presented to Swan Hill Rural City Council last week.
The $9.5 million project involved the roll out of 22,000 energy efficient LED street lights across 16 municipalities.
The Swan Hill district had 1320 80-watt mercury vapour lights upgraded to LED in November 2014, with council contributing $414,000 to the effort.
