LEVELS of blue-green algae detected in the Central Murray region have declined with the existing red alert set to be reviewed by authorities.
The Murray has been blighted by a blue-green algae outbreak from the upper reaches near Lake Hume to Lake Cullulleraine for several months.
Sunraysia Regional Algal Coordinating Committee chairman Owen Russell said testing at the end of last week showed algal levels near Swan Hill had decreased significantly.
But the red alert remains in place and cannot be removed until consistent testing shows the blue-green algae bloom in the water has ended.
“I am sure everyone is looking forward to the end of blue-green algae bloom,” Mr Russell said.
