Harry’s made the grade

THIS weekend will mark the last Murray Downs Golf and Country Club Swan Hill Cup for Harry Coffey as an apprentice jockey, with the up-and-coming talent looking for his maiden cup win in front of an expected 5000 race goers on Sunday.

The Swan Hill local — who will become a senior rider on August 1 — said he felt the fittest and healthiest in several years, giving him self-belief ahead of the weekend.

This season also saw Coffey pick up the “greatest win of my career so far” after riding a winner over 3200m for Darren Weir earlier this year at the Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes.

But Coffey still wants to win the elusive Swan Hill Cup, an event he has raced three times for no luck.

“It is my home town cup and all my friends and family come to the meeting, so to be a chance to win, it is great,” he said.
