MORE than 60 people participated in the NAIDOC march and flag raising ceremonies on Monday and NAIDOC organisers were delighted with the turn out.
The group met at the Cenotaph at 9.45am and then made the march up to Campbell Street with their banner to Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS) where the flag was raised and a morning tea was shared.
NAIDOC Committee member Claire Matheson said the event was a great success.
“The turn out from the public was amazing,” she said.
“We were really pleased to see so many people get behind the occasion.”
The march and flag raising kicked off a week of activities planned across the region to commemorate NAIDOC week.
NAIDOC week is a national event aimed at recognising the contributions and cultural heritage of Aboriginal Australians. NAIDOC Committee member Lateesha Jeffrey said the committee had worked hard to ensure the NAIDOC events were successful.
